or Motherhood is Kicking My Ass
Wake at 6:30 a.m. (after 7 hours of sleep (the baby. I got less)) to small child crying and inch-worming way up the bed. Pick up child and nurse. Have child refuse to nurse. Pick up child and head to kitchen for bottle, checking diaper along the way. Dry. [...]

So I get the email from this week’s play group coordinator. Hi – please meet this location, this time. My child and I won’t be there as usual as that is our nap time. Three others respond: That’s out nap time too. We won’t be there either. So I respond: It’s our nap time as [...]

Yummy Crayola

So today my DH in his infinite wisdom utter insanity desire to promote creativity gave our 11 month old son a pair of crayola markers and some paper. I at least had the foresight not to tell my husband the child was not developmentally ready for this as it would have taken much longer for [...]
Etta Chicken

Louise didn’t [...]

Thelma died, Louise lived

B found Thelma ass over teakettle in the hen house shortly after L was born. Against his carnivorous instincts and in line with my cardinal rule against eating pets, he buried her unceremoniously in the back yard where the marshmallow suddenly died the summer before. I guess he figured we wouldn’t do much digging there.
We’d [...]
Snips and snails and puppy dog tails

Out working in the yard today, B sitting on the patio with L:
B: Do you care if he eats a slug?
H: Yes.
B: It’s just protein.
There is a reason women traditionally raise the children…
He likes me!

So I’m nursing L the other day and I’m used to him pulling my hair, yanking on my shirt, clutching at my thumb. This time he stuck his toe up my nose. Kid’s talented, I tell ya.
Changed his diaper this morning and instead of pulling his toes up for their usual chew, he pulled his [...]
